Step Into the Boots of a Firefighter — Learn, Train, and Experience the Fire Service Firsthand

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a firefighter? Now’s your chance to find out! The Hambden Fire Department proudly offers the Citizen’s Fire Academy — a unique opportunity for residents of Hambden Township and surrounding communities to experience the skills, training, and dedication it takes to keep our community safe.

This fun and engaging program is designed to give participants a behind-the-scenes, hands-on look at how we operate. You won’t just watch — you’ll do.

Throughout the course, participants explore a wide range of fire and EMS topics, including:

  • How 911 calls are dispatched and coordinated
  • Fire suppression techniques and hands-on use of real equipment
  • CPR and Stop the Bleed certification
  • Rescue scenarios, including vehicle extrication and medical helicopters
  • Fire behavior, arson investigation, and firefighter safety
  • And much more!

Whether you’re curious about the fire service, interested in public safety, or just want to be more prepared for emergencies, the Citizen’s Fire Academy is an unforgettable experience.

Citizen’s Fire Academy

  • Class Begins: Tuesday, April 29, 2025
  • Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (No class on May 27 for Memorial Day)
  • Graduation Day: Saturday, June 21, 2025
  • Location: Hambden Fire Department, 9867 Old State Rd.

Classes meet weekly on Tuesday evenings and cover everything from CPR training and fire suppression to arson investigation and rescue operations.
